Four Essential Ingredients
Whenever a Benson author develops a system, he or she must add FOUR ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS to the mix. Let's take a look at these key components.
1) Betting strategy: This is your bet selection. In craps it could be pass or don't pass, for example.
2) Betting progression: Your bet size for each bet selection. There are numerous betting progressions.
3) Departure Rules: Quitting rules that determine how long you expose your buy-in each session. This exposure looks to minimize losses and optimize profits.
4) Money Management: The unit investment for your buy-in and bankroll.
The key to developing a winning strategy is to get each of these four ingredients to work together. For example, your buy-in must allow you to play out an up-as-you-lose or up-asyou-win progression, just as your departure rules must also account for your betting progression and bet selection. It is up to the author to blend these ingredients together.
That said, we think there is a crucial difference between the way the Benson systems address these four ingredients and every other system. That is, almost every other system utilizes what we call a static approach to gambling. Once a progression or playing strategy is established, the player is married to these components throughout his entire play. He cannot change these ingredients based on what's happening on the tables. These other systems will not allow it.
Not so with Benson systems. Our systems are designed to react to what is happening on the table. If necessary, each system looks to change the playing strategies and progressions according to your wins and losses. This is unprecedented. For example, with our original Playing Craps as a Profession, we first looked to play the do side and then switched to the don't if the table was losing. That is, we changed our playing strategy. Most systems would never think of changing its four ingredients during a session. This Benson philosophy was utilized in subsequent systems (in baccarat by following the shoe or playing the chops) as well as other craps systems.
