The Six Virtues of Successful Gambling
-
Maturity: A mature gambler is one who not only knows when to quit, but what to expect on the tables. With maturity comes a sense of what is reasonable and unreasonable. This maturity comes with having played many sessions and “seeing it all” in the casinos. -
Consistency: Consistency means playing without any compulsion. It means playing the same, no matter how much you win or lose. This consistency makes your small wins significant. You cannot play differently when you win than when you lose. Otherwise, money management goes out the window.
-
Patience: This is the key to not just grinding out small wins, but having the correct behavior for really cashing in on that big table, be it craps, baccarat or blackjack. In a previous newsletter we coined the term, “aggressive-patience.” That is, the patience to not only wait for the game to come to you, but the aggressiveness to make the big bets when the system calls for it.
-
Discipline: The ability to be consistent and patient. Following the rules of a method takes discipline and confidence in the system. Truth is, clients who have studied the history of the system and understand the fluctuations have the discipline and confidence to play it out.
-
Execution: This virtue is the first “external” behavior needed to win. That is, you must be able to execute the bets and strategies as outlined in the system.
-
Know How: This is the second “external” behavior. You must have the “know how,” or the complete understanding of how the system is played, to really succeed. You must have practiced enough times so that everything is mechanical: The strategies, departure rules and money management.
